In this particular episode, I want to dispel two popular myths when it comes to social media ads, whether that's Facebook ads, whether that's Instagram ads, whether that's TikTok ads, whether that's YouTube ads, Pinterest ads, or whatever. There are two very popular myths out there and I’ve got them actually jotted down because I hear them all the time.

The first one is the ad scale, literally. Let me explain what I mean. A lot of people think that, okay, I spent 10,000 on ads this month and I made 50,000, so I should be able to spend 20,000 this month and make 100,000. Then I should be able to spend 40,000 this month and make 200,000, and I should be able to spend 80,000 this month and make 400,000. They think that they grow, that ads scale literally, and they don't scale like that, right?

You may say, Marquel, why don't they? I don't know why they don't, right, because that's an algorithm thing and it's a Facebook inner working thing. It's a data thing. It's a limited capacity thing. It's a lot of different variables that account for that, but just know that they don't, so don't expect that. [02:02.0]

However, you want to look at your profitability overall, and as you're scaling, just make sure you're staying at a healthy profitability, right? For example, if you're in the coaching consulting types, let's say, you're in the coaching type space. Ideally, overall in your business, you want to be around 30% profitability, overall, after everything, after a lot of pre-tax profit profitability type of deal. You want to be around 30%, right?

So, you want to kind of just look at that because let's say, for example, you spend 10,000 and you make 50,000, and then you scale a little bit. You spend 15,000 and still make 50. I mean, are you really mad? Is that enough to go, kill the campaign? No, you can find some optimizations, but you want to just be aware that you say, Okay, I spent 10. Let me just dump 20 and my revenue should double. It just doesn't work like that. That's number one.

Number two. A lot of people think that it's about the targeting. They're like, Okay, this thing isn't working because of my targeting. My targeting is off. That's not true. Let me give you an example. [03:01.4]

Let's use somebody like ET, the Hip Hop Preacher, for example, right? If you were to target him with your Facebook ads, his audience, there are different types of people in his audience. You’ve got people who are absolute brand new newbies who are in that audience that are going to see that ad if you're targeting. Brand new and I’m just saying if you're targeting entrepreneurs. Let's say there are people who are brand new.
They're thinking about starting a business.

You’ve got people who have no interest in starting a business following him. You’ve got people who are six-figure earners following him. You have people who are multimillionaires following him.

What's going to be the thing that speaks to any segment of the audience? It's going to be the messaging that you choose when speaking to that target audience. Keep in mind, it's the messaging that's a lot more important than the targeting, okay?
