It’s moments like this I’m reminded JUST how much I love what I do.
We started remixing our podcast episodes into YouTube videos last year (we figured we should up our YouTube game).
So you can imagine my surprise when I found out the specialty jeweler for Marvel's hit movie Black Panther found FTA by Googling “How to Sell High End Jewelry Online” and our YouTube channel came up!
Not only is this amazing because hey, SEO works…but this woman’s story is BEYOND impressive.
She learned everything she could from people like us and her followed her own intuition to bring her to a really influential place in the industry!
Douriean Fletcher explores cultural identity, femininity, spirituality, and divine power through her adornments.
Her “why” helped her become the specialty jeweler/costumer for Marvel’s Black Panther movie!
Designing on a Mission
Douriean is another great example of how no one is an overnight success! She started designing jewelry because nothing else in her life seemed to coming together.
She started out selling on Facebook and street markets back in 2010. It took her almost 10 years of going door-to-door, calling boutiques, and still getting resistance before she really took off! So don’t feel bad if you’re not getting traction right away.
Connections Create Opportunities
You never know who you’re going to meet at events, galas, or business parties! Douriean met a costume designer at a craft & art party hosted by her friend. This story is incredible, you need to listen to the whole thing!
They kept in touch because this costume designer liked her jewelry a lot. Eventually, they met again (totally by fate!) but it was because Douriean kept persisting!
Ask For Help
Don’t be afraid to ask for the next connection or introduction. When you meet someone who is in the industry you’re trying to “break into” ask them if they know people!
Things don’t have to always go perfectly in order for you to get a “yes”!
xo, Tracy
