Today we're going to take a deeper dive into one of the worst things that can happen to your podcast show.
First you buy a book or two on podcasting and read them. After that you invest some big bucks into a podcasting course promising to show you everything you need to know about podcasting. Then when you feel good and confident you know what you need to know, you lay down big buckeroos to build your studio.
Now you've spent countless hours and thousands of dollars into this podcasting thing, you're finally ready to lay down some tracks.
You start recording the topics you brain stormed, then you mix your shows, buy intro and outros, pay a graphic designer and you're ready to post your first show.
You get the first one out there, then the second one, then the third, fourth and fifth and you notice no one is listening to your show.
How could that be? The GuRoob you bought the course from said if you had the right equipment and followed his step by step instructions your show would launch to critical acclaim.
What he neglected to tell you either because he's a sleaze ball trying to make a buck or because he doesn't know what the hell he's talking about is you shouldn't start a podcast until you have an audience.
Go look at any of the top 10 shows in iTunes right now and you'll notice one very interesting thing… the shows doing the best are the shows where people already had an audience and a business then decided to add a podcast to their marketing mix.
That's why I'm hear today to talk you OUT of podcasting.
If you don't have an email list, if you don't have an audience, if you don't have anything to sell then you don't need to think about podcasting – there are a lot of other things you could be doing with your time that'll give you a better ROI.
