Marquel: Hey, what's up, my friend? Marquel Russell here. Welcome to this brand new episode of the School of Client Attraction.

Today's episode is going to be a little bit different, but I want to share with you how I personally deal with losses and failures. What I mean by losses, I'm talking about my life in business when things don't go the way I want them to go because they, they rarely ever do, right? How do we deal with failure and things of that nature?

The way that I do it is I program myself a certain type of way. There are some people who say you either win or you lose, right? I say you either win or you learn. You actually learn more than when things don't go the way that you want them to go. For example, you can plan, plan, plan, plan, plan, as much as you want to, but things still won't go your way. You can try to perfect and all that. Still things won't go your way. [01:08.7]

I’m going to give you an example. In 2019, going in 2020, a big part of our game plan was to do events. We were going to do two events every single quarter. Then we sold it. We did an event in January. We sold an event from April, and then March COVID hit, right? And we thought COVID was going to be 30 days, 60 days, we were going to pass over. Here we go. A year passed. A year and a half passed, and still COVID pandemic happens, right? Punches us in the face, right? And that's what happens as an entrepreneur, but you’ve got to be able to shake those things off and get going.

We had our strategic plan to call my operations manager, or my assistant at the time, now our operations manager. She said, “Okay, what are we going to do differently?” I'm like, We're not going to do anything different. We're going to stay focused because I had read the scripture, Psalms 91. It said, basically, all hell will break loose around you. I mean, it didn't say that in these exact words, but everybody else will be affected, but you won't. I believed that and I continued to move in it, right? [01:57.9]

In that, we shifted to doing virtual. A whole year passed. We did all our events virtual and it actually worked out even better, because we looked at the data. With an ad campaign, we launch an ad, it doesn't go the way we want it to go and that happens quite often. Right? I'm not going to sit here and tell you that it doesn’t, but when it doesn't go right, I sit back, I zoom out, I look at the data, see what we need to adjust. We make the necessary adjustments and then we see what happens.

I'd go into everything with a marketer's brain like, Hmm, with a mind of curiosity. When something doesn't go right, I don't say, Oh, that didn't work. That didn't. I failed. I say, Hmm, that didn't go the way I wanted it to go. I'm curious, let me see why. Then I’d dive into it. We’d look at the data, look at it from a scientific standpoint and then we make the necessary adjustments.

That's what I encourage you to do as well. Whether you're launching new ad campaigns, whether you're launching a new offer, whether you're testing a new script on the phone, whatever the case may be, doing an event, doesn't go your way, look at the data. Zoom out. Make the necessary adjustments and be okay with the iterations, because the iterations knock most people out of the game. [03:00.8]

That's why I highly recommend not trying to perfect nothing, because when you're trying to perfect things, they never go the way you want them to go, and now you've invested so much time and you’ve exhausted yourself on this one go round, so when you’ve got to make the iterations, you don't make the iterations because you're so exhausted and you don't want to put that time in again.

This is how I want you to approach it when it comes to your losses or failures, or how you frame them up, and then when you do that, you'll go from win to win to win, because no matter what happens, you’ll still win because you learn something and you can get that new data.
