As always, I'm super excited about these next few minutes of our day, but even more so because we have Liz back with us and we're gonna talk about missions. But before we go any further, I have to ask you, are you needing a speaker for an upcoming event or conference? If so, I am your person. I would love to bring, find your fierce message to your next function to book your event. Message me at jill@jillallencoaching.com. And of course, I always tell you every single time that you hit play on this, I just love that you're here listening in and spending time. So honored that I get to be a part of your day. You are also amazing, and I thank you for your love and support as always.
(01:12): appreciate your feedback, your reviews, and I love that you shared the podcast and the set free message with your friends and family. So if you could keep on doing that, that would be incredible because you are helping this movement as it helps reach more women and it impacts more lives, and that is certainly what life is all about. So thank you again. So like I said, my friend Liz is back with us today and there are big things in the works for 2023. How are you? I'm great. How are you? Yeah, this is good. I believe this is Thanksgiving, right? We're recording this before it drops, which is kinda crazy because it actually lined up. There was no planning and it was just the way that it was lined up because obviously there's so much to be thankful for, grateful in the lives that we lead and the lives that we touch.
(01:57): It's just pretty special. So what are you thankful for? Gosh, I am thankful that God is present, does life with us. I'm thankful for incredible friends and family, and I know those sound cliche, but truly, if I take a step back and a bird's eye view, it's pretty great. So I really should, it's a lot to be thankful for. Yeah, it makes a difference when you have people that you spend your time. It's about the people, it's about the relationships, it's about, I mean, you have all the things, but it comes down to those relationships, which that's kind of what we're doing. I mean, we're talking about missions today and I don't know if I knew exactly what a mission was. I mean, I like to use the word mission a lot. I mean, the Moab mission, the backpacker mission, the 30 mile mission, and being out there and conquered this mission, but mission means so much more.
(02:53): And we went to Alaska in June. We talked a little bit about that. If you guys haven't caught that last episode, I think we've recorded that back in July or August. You guys can go back and check that. But talk about a mission, a completely different one that I know I have never experienced. And it just so happened it was in Alaska, but we were able, I, I think we put in over a thousand hours of work during that time, a team of 27 that just went out and gave all day. I don't think the sun ever set that, but it was game changing. And when we got back, I remember we had a meeting on our back porch , and we were fired up about everything that God was pouring in and the vision that he placed on our heart. And it's like we wanted more of that.
(03:47): Yes. I don't know, do you wanna expand on that? I just agree that was also my first actual mission trip experience going somewhere else. Totally unfamiliar. We've done, we've been local and gone out and tried to love people, which is truly the heart of missions. It's even in our hours given of serving and working, the heart of it is to love people. We're there to help meet this need, to love you, to show love. And it was just, I don't know, it was living on a cloud. I don't know, it was like this high. But what's funny about it is there was very little sleep pad. We worked and worked and worked and worked and worked and worked. And normally you don't think of those things as a high, you know, don't think of those as these mountain top experiences, but it truly was. And I think a lot of what made the difference was the people that we came in contact with.
(04:47): Like you said, it's all about relationships and serving them in that way. Even through work, it was still about the relationship. We're serving you to show the love of Jesus, to help you and to build relationship. And essentially at the heart of all of it, to further the kingdom and being able to help equip other churches, ministries, organizations, to be able to really impact their city when we leave, because we're only there for a short time. We had what, five days, but we got to be a part of helping them have a good foundation and establish them so they can continue the mission of reaching their communities. So anyway, it was incredible when you want everyone to experience that. I mean, I think about someone once said, it's always easier. You find more joy doing someone else's dishes. You don't wanna do your dishes at home. ,
(05:40): Right? The pile that's in the sink, you just like, ah, I gotta do. But if you're helping someone else and doing their dishes, it's a totally different heart posture and mindset of, I go to my grandma's, I love doing her dishes, but if my kids leave their dishes in the sink, I'm a completely different person. I yell at my kids because they left the dishes in the sink, . So I kind of link that to the mission in that it's like it, there's something about helping someone else and the reward for it. It's like there's almost, there's like this intense purpose filled, yeah, that's good art that does that. And it doesn't have to be in Alaska. I mean, I kind of wanna talk a little bit about how and give application or help someone like, well, I wanna get involved or I wanna help, or I wanna have that feeling as well of where we can start.
(06:33): What can we do within our own families in the four walls of our home? What can we do locally in the schools and the churches and any type of ministry? I mean, it could be helping someone and you're just taking a walk on the bike path. I mean, I think I wanna get a clear perspective or at least share that of what that means. So for someone who's like, well, I'm sitting here, I wanna be a part of that, what can I do in addition to leaving your town to go out and serve? Yeah, I think that's really good. I think, I'll be honest and admit, when I think when I was younger and growing up in the church and whatever, my mindset when I would think of missions was third world countries. Like, oh, that's where you go on mission trips. You have the stereotypical image in my mind, and it's probably only been in the last several years, honestly, that I feel like I kind of was shifting that.
(07:34): He's like, no, I'm sorry. Your life can be, it is ministry. It's really just, again, back to the heart posture, the focus. If the heart is, the motivation is love. How can I love my neighbor essentially? Cause that's what the word says. It tells us to love your neighbor and well, who's my neighbor? Everyone around this. And so then begin to shift my perspective of, okay, like I said, I've been involved in local stuff where even just going to the grocery store and ministering to people at the grocery store or on the bike path or whatever, and it's really just a mindset of being aware. And honestly, at least for me, listening too, for the Holy Spirit to give his little gentle nudges as I go throughout my day of so that I see people open my eyes and give a little judge a nudge so that I could see people and be like, Hey, maybe minister to her.
(08:27): And it can be so simple. . So that's been cool. And then even as far as going somewhere for missions, I mean, by all means, we go to third world countries and we go overseas and because there's huge needs, but there's also huge needs here in my backyard, in my school, in my community, and in my neighboring state or wherever it may be. So I just know in my journey, the Lord has really expanded my view when it comes to missions and what exactly that means. , what is missions, while it's just loving people like Jesus and sharing the gospel with them. And I can do that anywhere. Anywhere. Yeah. anywhere. Yeah, anywhere. I think we just said it at the same time. And it's crazy because I remember a couple years ago I was like, man, I wanted to do a mission trip, and how cool would that be?
(09:26): And sometimes selfishly, well, days off, vacation day, the finances, are we gonna switch vacation, our vacation time to go and serve? And are we gonna drag the kids? They wanted to go to the beach. And big, my heart was torn. I mean, I've been receiving emails for years now because I had done my research. We're like, okay, one year I thought we were gonna go on a mission trip over Christmas break. This is all for Christmas. I mean, because I was like, I knew in my heart we wanted to do that. But again, I think we get so caught up in no, I only have so much time and I only have so much financially. And where are we going to spend that time? And are we willing to give? Because it's not just the money. Are we willing to give our heart and our time to something that is totally not a seven day vacation at the beach?
(10:28): No, it doesn't. So I remember being on the phone call with them. I'm like, okay, we had narrowed it down to a couple Alaska or Hawaii. And I'm like, okay, I gotta get off here and actually pray on this. Is this where he wants us to go? If we put this out there, give it's us a sign for that. And 27 people joined us. And at first I felt kind of guilty and I wanna talk about that guilt and had to look inward to my heart as in, okay, why are we choosing here? Why are we going here? And I tell you the people that we met in that there was no way that we would've ever met them if we were not in Alaska. And here we are this June, we're going to Hawaii. And I just love how God works. That God gave us this world, and the beauty.
(11:34): We were on the top of that mountain. We hiked. I think it was like, I don't know, it was in the middle of the night, midnight hike, . It was. And I'm like, it was such a surreal moment of, oh my gosh, you gave us this beauty and you brought us here. And the ripple effect of everyone that was there and then the lives that they impacted. Yep. I'm excited that we get to do that in Hawaii again. Me too. And the people that will cross our paths because of it. Yeah. Well what's funny is after Alaska, I don't know if you remember this, I just remember many multiple people, whether they went to Alaska or not, I just kept hearing Hawaii. It would come up all the time and conversations and stuff.
(12:28): So to me, I'm like, oh my gosh, I'm listening. Why not a, I don't coincidence that it keeps coming up that this particular place keeps coming up. And so then you look into it and oh, there's need there too. Shocker. Cause there's need everywhere, . And then that's a possibility. This is a trip that they offer and stuff like that. So to me, I think of a lot of that that has built it. I didn't even know that when you were choosing Alaska, you were choosing between the two . And maybe it's just because the two were gonna be part of it eventually. So that's really cool to hear too, that it started there. And then just to me, I felt like there was a lot of confirmation just because like I said, it just kept coming up. Yeah. I'm like, what did you just say? That kinda thing. Wait a minute. People would say, yeah, the people that would say stuff that had no idea. So that's just cool to me too, just to see how God, his little fingerprints and all the little details and the fun of saying yes and jumping in for the ride.
(13:36): Yeah. Well, I wanna challenge the people that are listening. I mean, of course we would love for you to join our team, but more importantly, I want to challenge you to live your days with a heart for missions every single day into the grocery store when you go into your place of work and your family and just to have that heart. I mean, we can make a huge impact. And it's so hard to explain the reward. I mean, your heart is so full. I mean, the Lord says he wants to give us a full life, a full heart in a life that is abundant, but not necessarily the abundance that we interpret with all the things. It's an abundance, like you said in heart. In the heart. Yes. The joy in and fulfillment and stuff like that. Yeah. It's so good. I think I heard the kids, I think Lancaster High School does this where they each a week of where they just, it's like an act of kindness and they do little things, random things to kids, teachers, people they don't even know.
(14:45): That's awesome. Throughout that entire week. And it's anonymous, but just little notes of encouragement or That's awesome. It really is. And this is kind of what we're doing just at a larger scale. Larger scale. Maybe another challenge is let's not let it stop at the Lancaster High School challenge. I'm sitting here thinking, well, that's cool. What week is that? I wanna jump in. I wanna be part of that. . I mean, we could do it. Every challenge doesn't even have to be a week. I mean, we want do that every single day. If you're thinking of someone, reach out. If you know, have the nudge to wash someone's dishes, go wash someone someone's dishes.
(15:27): And if you've been thinking about a mission trip, then we want you to join us for that. We are going to Hawaii June 24th through the 30th. It's actually KA is where they're sending us, and we have no idea what we're doing. I mean, that's the crazy part. You have to Yes, before you know what you're signing up for because you may do a lot of dishes, . Yeah, I know. And they use our gifts and I think that's, and skills. And I think that's what, and they're gonna put us in places and with people that are gonna need our gifts and skills for that. And so we definitely want you to join us there. I do kind of wanna put this out there because we've talked about it for a while, and I think it's just that next step you brought up, love your neighbor. Yeah.
(16:15): When you hear that, how does that speak to you? Well, truly it's okay. Well then who's my neighbor? That's naturally the next question. And like I said, the Lord really kind of expanded my view. I was like, oh, it's everyone. Then we moved into this new house and I felt like the Lord said the neighbor. That was a significant thing. And then we meet our neighbors and we love our neighbors, which is by the white guys, , which is, and we just really love our neighbors. So we had a little powwow, like you mentioned, after our last mission trip. Just so excitement. So much excitement. So full of vision. So God's on this and how can we jump in and be involved and saying yes to what God is doing? Kind of unsure of all of the details and what that's gonna look like, but saying yes to the call of creating Love your neighbor.
(17:13): So this is also kind of a little plug, our first announcement if you wanna say of some really cool stuff up and coming, but for a nonprofit called Love Your Neighbor. Yeah, I'm excited about it. And we have no idea what it looks like. And all I know is that in terms of the vision is people giving back. Yeah. Everywhere. Yeah, everywhere here in our town, in our, yeah, yeah, yeah. So we want you to be a part of it. Stay tuned for that because it's just a lot again in the works and it's all gonna be happening in 2023. But we are as Love your neighbor partnering with Praying Pelicans for June of 2023. And that's like the big initial. But as praying Pelicans is working on the mission and they're doing what they are good at. We're gonna be working on the behind the scenes of what we can do and how we can partner with all of you to make a difference in the local community and beyond.
(18:11): And so it's pretty exciting. With that, I tell you what, if you guys have any questions, please reach out because we want you to join our team and I know that you guys have a gift that needs to be shared and for that, so it's pretty good. Anything else? I think I covered it, . Yeah. Yeah, join us. It'll be great. Yep. I'm excited to see what God's doing and we're excited to what's gonna happen and how your heart transforms through this process as well. So it's pretty good. Well, we want you to come back, cuz I always love our talks for that. Liz, go back and look. There's the Coffee Talk series and we just did a couple episodes of Walking in Truth and the Green Light.
