When my mom died fifteen years ago I was still working as an electrician and dead broke.
I didn't even have enough dough to buy a suit for her funeral.
Luckily, I had this very good friend who offered to buy me a suit.
We went to the store, I picked out a black suit and tried it on. It fit OK, so we headed towards the register to check out.
That's when the salesman stopped us and said, “Hey wait a second, don't you want to get that tailored?”
We went to the back, they took my measurements, shortened the sleeves, shortened the pants, and tapered the jacket.
I experienced two firsts that day:
The first time I had such a generous friend help me out when I was down and out.
The first time I had a tailor create a custom fitting garment for me.
I learned a lot from that experience. I never forgot my friends generosity and he still works with me today. And I still get my clothes tailored so they fit perfectly.
