I belong to several different masterminds and forums and every so often a fun question comes up about podcasting.
In a forum the other day a guy asked what were some of the big lessons and pitfalls to avoid when jumping into podcasting.
These three lessons come from eight years in the trenches trying to figure out this podcast thang. I've had many failures, a few successes and I am always learning.
After writing the post I thought this stuff was too good to keep hidden inside the forum, so I'm hooking you up for being a loyal reader of my daily rants.
You're Welcome.
This is some good “starter” stuff , but I go way more in depth (including solutions and work arounds) inside my Podcast Recipes book. I'll tell you how you can get your hands on a copy in just a moment. But first I'll share my top three lessons with you.
My first podcast was a total failure which ended with 77 poorly recorded episodes and a year and a half of wasted time.
Lesson #1: On my second attempt at podcasting I decided I wanted high quality audio. I tried to do everything myself, which resulted in a 1/2 hour show taking 4 hours to produce. It sucked all the fun out of podcasting not to mention that's time I will never get back. That's when I decided to hire an audio engineer.
Lesson #2: Hiring an audio engineer was a smart move to free up my time, the only thing I hadn't thought about was the expense. I had no clue how I was going to get my money back so this was not an investment – it was an expense that kept piling up which eventually made me quit the show. Money out + no money in = dead podcast.
Lesson #3: Have a plan for how your podcast will enrich you before you go in. It might be sales, it might be leads, it might be networking, it might be inflating your ego. Whatever it is, plan it before you launch so you can measure it after you're going.
Anyways, I'm still podcasting so you know I've got tips and ticks to overcome all these problems including how to launch your podcast with no money out of pocket. It's all inside my Podcast Recipes book you get when you subscribe to my Podcast Mogul Newsletter http://PodcastMogul.com
But you should know, I'm raising the price of the newsletter subscription very soon.
If you want to get in before the price hike now is your chance http://PodcastMogul.com
