The Road Not Taken
Kyle tried to write Robert Frost’s poem in cursive. It’s a classic poem about taking the unpopular route. New habits are formed in a similar way.
“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.” -Robert Frost, The Road Not Taken
The brain has a neural pathway that isn’t used much. The only way to form that path is to keep going back and forth. Similarly, you need to form new routes to form new habits.
The Orange Mallet
Kyle enjoys doing hammer drills every day. He does it for brain development. He recently bought an orange mallet.
It was not easy having to change from a big mallet to a small one. He used to hit 300, but things aren’t the same. He needs focus to get used with his new orange mallet.
The Best Time to Form a Habit
People struggle creating new habits. In his coaching sessions, Kyle focuses on helping others create new habits in any areas of concern. The best time, as he explains, is when you focus only on one habit while the rest of your life turns off.
For Kyle, while he was still teaching, his best time was usually during summer. It’s when his mind is clear and can pull in different directions. Overall, Kyle suggests that you choose one key habit that could influence all else.
