The other day I was rapping with one of my loyal readers.
I asked her if she already had a podcast show and she enthusiastically replied, “Yes!”
When I asked her why she got into podcasting she shared a touching story about how a podcast changed her life.
And I could relate, because when my first business failed podcasts were the education and encouragement I needed to rebuild.
Without thinking I asked her if she wanted to grab a quick chat on the phone.
She accepted and we got to talking about her podcast show and how it helped her build her brand and get more business.
The only problem she was having is that is wasn’t consistent enough.
Sure, she got some good leads every once in a while – but it wasn’t enough to make ends meet.
As we got to talking more she told me she didn’t want to be too ‘salesy.’
Every once in a while she dropped a hint about what she does in her show – but she didn’t want it to be a big fat sales pitch.

Don’t they deserve better productivity?
Then why aren’t you telling them these stories?”
Afterwards I asked what her biggest takeaway was from our call and she said,
“I am helping companies in a way that I haven’t articulated clearly because I’m too afraid of sounding salesy/self-serving. But, if I position it from a place of serving them, it can’t sound salesy!”
Seems like an obvious answer, but sometimes it’s too hard to see when it’s your business because you’re too close to it.
